Music at the Fair

While you view the pictures at the Fair, there will be an intermittent programme of live music in the cafe within the fair.

The programme will feature a mix of classical, light music, and jazz.


Wednesday 3 February


3 – 5 pm Yoko Nakamura
 
Programme:
Yoko will be performing a number of piano solo pieces including: Chopin, Liszt and Ravel.


Biography:

Born in Japan, Yoko Nakamura began music training at an early age. She came to Britian in 2005 to study at the Royal College of Music. Since then Yoko has been successful in many national and international competitions. These include the award in The Takasaki International Art & Music Competition in Japan (2001) and she was a finalist in the RCM Concerto Competition playing Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1, and performed the concerto in Hastings Musical Festival (2007). She has also performed at: Regent Hall, Steinway Hall, National Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum, St George’s Hanover Square, Finchcocks Music Museum in Kent, and Harlequin Theatre in Surrey. Future engagements include concerts at RCM Britten Theatre, St Mary Abbots Church, and Wesley’s Chapel in London in 2010.

Biography:

Grace Yeo, from Seoul, Korea started piano at just 4 years old. A talented musician, Grace has achieved many awards. Highlights of her career include: postgraduate scholarship at London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (2008), First Prize and Audience Prize at the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Beethoven Intercollegiate Piano Competition (2009), she was invited to perform at the ‘Young Artists Concert Series’ in Seoul and has performed in many famous venues such as Young-San Art Hall, Ceramic Palace Hall and Concert Hall at Seoul National University in Korea. She has performed concertos by Beethoven, Chopin and Schumann and in January 2008 she played ‘Liszt Piano Concerto No.1’ with the ‘Mostly Philharmonic Orchestra’ in Korea. Forthcoming dates include recitals of Concordia Foundation and Beethoven Piano Society of Europe in many venues in around London and she will perform Grieg Piano Concerto in the Royal Albert Hall in May, 2010.

Biography:

Alex Wilson grew up in Gloucestershire and studied for an Undergraduate Degree at York University before moving to London to study with Andrew Ball on a Postgraduate Degree in Piano performance at the Royal College of Music in London.  He has performed around the country, in venues including the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall in York, the Pittville Pump Room in Cheltenham and at St George’s Hanover Square in London.  Additonally he was a Gloucestershire Young Musician of the Year Finalist in 2007 and has had success in competitive festivals in Cheltenham and Huddersfield.  Alex particularly enjoys playing contemporary music, and will be playing as part of the Kammerklang series in March and enjoys playing Chamber music, as he finds solo performance very lonely sometimes!

Biography:

The Amaranth quartet, it is a newly formed quartet, established in November 2008. All the players are currently doing their Masters at Guildhall school of Music and Drama.

Lucia Marica comes from Romania where she graduated the High school of Music in 2004. From 2004 to 2008 she studied with full scholarship in Royal Academy of Music for her BMus diploma and currently she studies with Jacqueline Ross for her Master Diploma in Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Lucia won many national and international competitions and gave recitals and concerts in Hungary, Romania and UK.
Lucia is kindly supported by the Ratiu Family Foundation. 

Eiko Azuma graduated Bachelor of Music in Kobe College, Japan.
She continues her study and builds up her career as player, teacher and leader in school and local area.
Now she studies in Music Master in Leadership course in Guildhall School of Music and Drama, supported by The City of London Corporation.

Ga Young Lee
, a fine viola player, studied her Bachelor degree in Korea as a scholarship student for whole her undergraduate time. In her fourth year of university, she was a winner of Asia Young Artist Competition. After finishing her Bachelor degree, in order to experience the European music more in depth she came to London to study at Royal Academy of Music under Prof. James Sleigh. At this moment, she is doing her Masters at Guildhall School of music and Drama under Alexander Zemtsov and Sven Arne-Tepl.

Tatiana Judycka was born in Poland in 1976. She graduated from Academy of Music in Krakow with MA in Music Performance as well as from Jagiellonian University with MA in Psychology. She has studied Early Music Performance in Academy of Music in Wroclaw and Creative Writing in Jagiellonian University. She has participated in many international music courses and masterclasses, working with famous artists e.g. Jaap ter Linden, Peter Buk, Victoria Yagling, Viola de Hoog, Rainer Zipperling, Peter Wispelwei and others.Now she is studying at Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

Biography:

Born in Hong Kong, Maggie Ho completed her BA Degree in music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007 and was awarded the Dean's List for outstanding academic performance in Faculty of Arts.  She gained the Licentiate of Trinity College (LTCL) with distinction in 2006. She has been an accompanist for a church choir for 10 years and was actively involved in teaching at a music school since 2004. Maggie has studied with Gordon Fergus-Thompson and the Fortepiano with David Ward and is currently studying with Nigel Clayton and Jazz Piano with Mike Moran in her second year of Master degree at Royal College of Music. She was awarded the RCM Amadeus Fortepiano (2nd) prize in 2008. She also enjoys playing Chamber music, such as Piano trio and duos. Future engagements in 2010 include concerts at Aylesbury Church, Claremont Centre and St George's Hanover Square.

Biography:

The Jacquin Trio is a new ensemble comprised of current postgraduate students from the Royal College of Music. Formed in September 2009, they have since studied with Simon Rowland-Jones, Janet Hilton, Nigel Clayton and members of both the Chilingirian and Sacconi Quartets. Despite their recent formation they have already performed at St. Mary Abbot's Church, Kensington and St. Paul's Church, Marylebone.  Future engagements include recitals at Hyde Park Chapel Concert Series and St. Alfege Concert Series, Greenwich. As a scholar of the RCM, Irish clarinettist Jessica Grimes studies with Timothy Lines and Richard Hosford. Pianist Charis Cheung was a finalist of the Canadian Music Competition and during the course of her studies she has been taught by Ruth Nye, Jane Coop and Robert Silverman. Violinist Zoë Matthews currently studies with Simon Rowland-Jones and Rachel Roberts.

Biographies:

Born in 1990, Korean violinist Joo Yeon Sir is currently studying with Dr. Felix Andrievsky as a Scholar at the Royal College of Music and has appeared recitalist and as soloist with orchestras in venues across the UK including the Wigmore Hall, London Arts Club, St. James' Palace and Foundling Museum and Fairfields Hall. She has been a major prize winner at national and international competitions (Grand Prix at Nedyalka Simeonova International Violin Competition, Windsor Festival International String Competition, Royal Philharmonic Society Emily Anderson Award, MBF Music Education Award and Martin Musical Scholarships) and has been broadcast on Bulgarian National Radio and the BBC Radio 2. Also a composer, she is the BBC/Guardian Young Composer of the Year 2005 and her works have been performed at Cadogan Hall, Queen Elisabeth Hall as well as on BBC Radio 3. In recent years, she has often appeared at recitals with Irina Andrievsky. Her future concerts in 2010 includes Bruch Concerto with Luton Symphony Orchestra and Delius Concerto with The Cambridge Orchestra amongst other engagements.

Irina Andrievsky was born in Ufa, Russia and recieved her first piano lessons at the age of seven, winning first prize in the Ufa Piano Competition at the age of ten. She graduated from the Moscow Central Music School for the Gifted Children and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory (Doctorat) under Professor E. Malinin, L. Timofeeva and M. Mijlumoff. She has been among the winners of International Piano Competitions in Italy and Israel and has given solo recitals throughout Europe, as well as performing with numerous symphony orchestras including the Tel-Aviv, Satumare, Romania, Moscow Philharmonic and other symphony orchestras in Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Georgia, Russia and Australia. In 1991, Irina immigrated to Israel and continued her music career mainly performing solo recitals and chamber music, performing at "Radio France and Montpellier" Festival in France, as well as in other chamber music festivals in Strasbourg, France; Gent, Belgium; and Insel-Hombroich, Germany. For the past 14 years, she has also developed an impressive career as a piano teacher in Israel, raising a generation of promising young pianists. Irina is married to Dr. Felix Andrievsky – Professor of violin at the Royal College of Music, London– and has moved permanently to the UK.
